Michael Jackson’s personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray arrived at the Los Angeles Superior Court Airport Courthouse in Los Angeles, California today. The doctor has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the pop singer’s death.
Prosecutors announced the charge on 08 February 2010, against Dr. Conrad Murray, a Houston cardiologist who was with Jackson when he died on 25 June 2009. After reviewing toxicology findings, the Los Angeles county coroner ruled Jackson’s death a homicide “caused by acute intoxication of the powerful anesthetic propofol, with other sedatives a contributing factor.”
Murray acted ‘without the caution and circumspection required” when he administered, propofol, a powerful sedative to Jackson in an effort to help him sleep.
Dr. Conrad Murray-who appears with his legal team for his arraignment at the Los Angeles Superior Court Airport Courthouse,- had no remorse and plead not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson’s death
“We’ll make bail, we’ll plead not guilty and we’ll fight like hell,” Murrays lawyer Ed Chernoff said.
Bail was set at $75,000, but with strings attatched. The Medical Board of California wanted the judge to immediately stop Dr. Murray in his tracks from practicing medicine as a condition to bail. The Board wanted the judge to step in stat because it takes the Medical Board a long time to yank a doctor’s license- but In the end, the judge would only go as far as ordering Dr. Murray not to administer anesthetics, including Propofol.
After FINALLY being charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson, Murray had to surrender his passport.
Deputy District Attorney David Walgren of the Major Crimes Division will prosecute the case- Murray will be in court again on April 5.
